| Some project cargo is simply too large or too heavy for the infrastructure that already exists. That can mean much more than removing a few road signs. Depending on the cargo and the route, teams may need to reinforce bridges, temporarily lift power lines, remove street furniture, modify roads or even create temporary bypasses. And sometimes, the solution is surprisingly creative ! For one industrial transport project, a 445-tonne reactor had to cross a route with several bridge-related obstacles. Engineers used special bridge-crossing techniques to distribute the load, while another section required a temporary steel bridge to create a safe alternative route. In other projects, hundreds of overhead power lines have had to be lifted or temporarily modified so exceptionally high loads could pass safely. So sometimes, before the cargo can move, the road has to move with it.. That’s the kind of problem-solving that makes project logistics anything but ordinary ! |
